Aziende Agricola Mario Schiopetto is one of the oldest wine estates in the Collio area. In the rolling hills in Capriva del Friuli, in the province of Gorizia, Mario Schiopetto founded this legendary estate in 1965.
Mario Schiopetto was the man responsible for launching the Italian white wine quality revolution. He bottled his first Tocai wine in 1965 in the classic green Rhine-shaped bottle and Italian white wine was never the same again. His love affair with wine started by observing and working in his father’s osteria, then as a truck driver a job that allowed him to travel far and wide and to gain new experiences. Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, his name was regularly associated with those who first put Italian wine on the quality wine scene; Incisa della Rocchetta, Giacomo Bologna, Ceretto, Antinori, Gaja, and Biondi Santi, for example.
Schiopetto Friulano ranks among Italy’s best white wines....It is safe to say that the quality rebirth of Italian white wine started by Mario Schiopetto in the 1960s. Schiopetto is one of Italy’s truly historic wineries. Vinous
