The Roncaglie vineyard is nestled in the southern reaches of Barbaresco
- vines planted 1970 - 1980 – 1995 - 2010
- 6 hectares of vines planted with Nebbiolo
- South/Southwest exposure at 240-280 meters in a natural amphitheater
- clay and limestone composed soils (argilo-calcaire)
Roncaglie has always been recognized as one of the most prestigious and important Barbaresco vineyard sites mentioned as far back as 1880. Local Piemonte expert Alessandro Masnaghetti writes "...the position of Roncaglie, together with Roncagliette, is one of the best we can see on the side of the hill that begins at Roccalini and rises towards Treiso..." The site also gives way to the Costa Russi vines from Angelo Gaja's most famous and expensive wines. His vineyard is easy to pick out as the vines are planted vertically up the slope, unlike all the other vines in Roncaglie.

A stellar wine, the 2016 Barbaresco Roncaglie is pretty, delicate and understated to the core. Rose petal, sweet spice, tobacco, mint, anise and sweet red cherry all grace this translucent, super-expressive Barbaresco from Poderi Colla. A Barbaresco of understatement and class, the 2016 is light on its feet, persistent and finely sculpted. Time in the glass brings out the wine's inner sweetness and perfume, but the 2016 also needs time in bottle to be at its best. This is such a gorgeous wine.
