2019 Clusel-Roch Condrieu Verchery
Rhone, France | $76.99
Green-tinged straw. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus and pit fruits are complicated by chalky mineral and floral accents. Juicy and deeply concentrated but lively as well, offering mineral-tinged peach nectar and Meyer lemon flavors that show superb clarity and back-end cut. The mineral and floral notes come back strong on the incisive finish, which hangs on with outstanding tenacity.
Terroir: Adjoining localities 'Vernon', 'Chery', both located on the hillside of Chery, both of the Condrieu appellation, on biotite granite soils and very hot and filtering. Hill faces due south.
Grape Variety: 100% Viognier, mass selections
Vine Age: 30 years
Vinification: Harvested by hand and careful sorting is carried out in the vineyard by the pickers. When they arrive at the cellar, the grapes are pressed and then settled in the cold. Fermentation is done mainly in barrels, and for a small part in stainless steel vats using indigenous yeats.
Aging: 1 year in barrels and stainless steel vats. Fining and light filtration occurs before bottling.
Tasting: Aromatic with notes of apricot, peach, honey, and hawthorn. Very fatty with less acidity but endowed with a beautiful minerality. Pair with shellfish, freshwater fish, sea fish (that's not too iodized), or even poultry.
