Formed in 2002, Hecht et Bannier produces wines that are reference points for the Roussillon, Languedoc and Provence. Founders Gregory Hecht and François Bannier note: “To conserve the typical Mediterranean strength in our wines while preserving balance and crispness, this is our mantra for all the appellations we produce.”
All Hecht & Bannier crus are aged for two years in large, traditional “Demi Muids” (600L) wood barrels that insure preservation of fruit quality and impart “resistance” to the wines allowing them to age well. A portion of each wine is aged in neutral concrete vats to focus the expression of fruit and appellation.
The Hecht et Bannier Languedoc Blanc is a blend of two southern French varietals which complement each other: Picpoul Blanc and Roussanne. Bordering the Etang de Thau along the Mediterranean coast, they have the benefit of relatively cool terroirs on which vines “stare” at the sea. Throughout the summer this mild maritime influence enables the grapes to preserve their natural acidity. Both varietals being late ripening grapes they fit the Mediterranean climatic conditions. They allow the aromatic flavors preservation until the harvest at the end of September or early October for some Picpoul. This wine is aged 100% in stainless steel tank.
